A panel appointed by the Anambra State Government was taken aback when Mmesoma Joy Ejikeme confessed before them that she had forged her Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) result without anyone’s knowledge or assistance. Her admission took place in the presence of her principal and the Anambra State Education Secretary. Subsequently, the panel compiled its findings and submitted a report to the state government, which indicted the 19-year-old student.

Fabian Benjamin, the Head of Public Affairs and Protocol of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), disclosed the report to the media on Saturday. He stated that Mmesoma had also admitted that the account given by the JAMB officials accurately described the events. According to Benjamin, Mmesoma confessed to manipulating her result by herself, without any outside help, using her Airtel phone number. She further admitted to visiting a cybercafé named Prisca Global Computers in Uruagu, Nnewi, where she printed the manipulated results.

The panel’s report revealed that Mmesoma did not provide any justification for her forgery. Benjamin stated, “During Ejikeme Joy Mmesoma’s statement, she acknowledged in the presence of her principal and the Education Secretary that the account given by the JAMB officials was an accurate depiction of what occurred.” He added, “She also confessed to manipulating her UTME result on her own, using the same Airtel phone number. According to her, she proceeded to a cybercafé (Prisca Global Computers, Uruagu, Nnewi) where she printed the manipulated results. The committee attempted to ascertain the motive behind her actions, but Ejikeme Joy Mmesoma remained silent.” The Principal of Anglican Girls’ Secondary School, Uruagu, Nnewi, and the Education Secretary of the Diocese of Nnewi (Anglican Communion) expressed shock at the turn of events during their testimonies.

It should be recalled that JAMB had previously accused Mmesoma of manually inflating her UTME score from 249 to 362. Despite having her original result invalidated and receiving a three-year ban from taking the UTME due to her fraudulent actions, Mmesoma continued to claim that her result was genuine, asserting that she obtained it from the JAMB portal. Additionally, she presented herself as the top scorer of the 2023 UTME and received a N3 million scholarship from Innoson Motors.
